The Duo Paradiso has been founded in 2002 by the flutist Melanie Sabel and the guitarist Štěpán Matějka. Both musicians are graduates of the University of Music and Theatre Rostock .
The ensemble extended their interpretatory skills under the direction of internationally renowned chamber music foundations such as Verdi Quartett und Ensemble Recherche.
Since 2005 they are scholarship holders of the Yehudi Menuhin Foundation “Live Music Now“ and for the year 2007 they were chosen to perform under the wellknown foundation of the HypoVereinsbank Germany. The musicians are giving concerts throughout Europe and are guests at international festivals. They made recordings for the Czech and German broadcast.
The Duo celebrates success in competions as well:
In 2005 they received the 1st prize at the International Chamber Music Competion “Karl Ditters von Dittersdorf“ in Vidnava, Czech Republic. In 2006 the duo was awarded 1st prize at the International Competition “Luys Milán“ vila de L’Olleria, Spain.
Since 2010 cooperate Duo Paradiso with Theater „Cylindr“ in several projects (Man, who planted the trees, The Smal Prince).

The flautist Melanie Sabel graduated and acquired her master diploma at the High Music School of Rostock in the class of Anja Setzkorn. During her studies she took a lot of master classes focused especially on the recent interpretation. She performs in a number of chamber ensembles and she is also a soloist, e.g. in Concertino Ensemble or in the Philharmonic of Rostock.

The guitarist Štěpán Matějka began his musical education at the Conservatory of Prague in the class of Prof. Milan Zelenka. Under his tutelage he later graduated at the Academy of Music in Prague. He continued his studies under Prof. Thomas Offermann at the High Music School of Rostock. During his studies he has received a number of international awards, among others the awards in the International Guitar Biennial in Kutná Hora and in Gdansk. He has also received a number of special awards for the interpretation of the contemporary music.
Since 2007 Štěpán Matějkais teaching at the High Music School of Rostock.
